JoaS Jack Draws the Line

"What is art?" Jack mused, thumbing through a huge portfolio. He slammed it shut and pulled up a chair.
"Art is life. It's how we express aspects of our lives, no matter the medium. When we do it together, it becomes culture." he spun the chair around and sat on it backwards, leaning backwards. "That might seem reductive... or even too inclusive... but let me explain."

"Take this chair. It might seem simple... functional... but it has a design. An aesthetic. It has been designed this way not just for its practical use, but for how it appeals to its users visually. Also for how to fits in to other design features in the house." He stood and spun it on his finger, by a single one of its legs. It twirled and thumped back in to place. "It could have looked a hundred different ways - and indeed to some people they'll only ever see it as a chair... but it is undeniably art. I know a guy who loves chairs..."
He sat again and slouched. "There is bad art, of course. And art in bad taste, which isn't quite the same. But you shouldn't exclude any creative pursuit based on your own prejudices, because the truth is that art exists in everything."

Jack then proceeded to kick over the chair.
"That was an ugly chair." Jack decided, folding his arms. "Remind me to write an angry letter to the guy who made it."
